American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP)

ACOEP is comprised of attending physicians, residents and medical students from across the United States who have dedicated themselves to the advancement of the field of emergency medicine, as well as their careers. Our annual conferences, publications and learning opportunities are just a few of the reasons why ACOEP has been a pillar in the emergency medicine community for over 40 years.

American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI)

At TouroCOM Middletown, the ACOI seeks to provide osteopathic medical students opportunities to learn about internal medicine as well as network with physicians in the community. Membership is free and we strive to offer students various shadowing and volunteer experiences. Students interested in internal medicine and/or any of its subspecialties are highly encouraged to sign up.

American Medical Student Association (AMSA)

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is the oldest and largest independent association of physicians-in-training in the United States. When you join AMSA, you become part of a vital force of future physicians who believe that patients and health professionals are partners in the management of health care and that access to high-quality health care is a right and not a privilege. At AMSA, activism is a way of life. Student idealism is transformed into meaningful public service, innovation and institutional change. AMSA is committed to improving the lives of medical students like you, in big ways and small. Our benefits will make your life just a little easier, and our magazine, The New Physician, will give you the information you need to enrich your medical training and launch your career as a physician.

American Medical Association (AMA)

AMA is the only organization that represents all physicians at every stage of their career. It is the largest medical organization in the United States and provides opportunities to network with medical students and physicians across the country while also getting involved in policymaking and community service. Membership incentives for medical students include Netter's Anatomy flashcards, Goljan's Pathology Rapid Review and discounts on Kaplan courses as well as other services.

American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM)

"The vision of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine is to champion the health, well-being, and safety of athletes and physically active people." The Sports Medicine Club at Touro was formed to provide information, exposure, and experience opportunities for students of interest both on and off the field.

Anesthesia Club

The Anesthesia Club was founded by students interested in the field of Anesthesia. It works to foster an understanding of the field and organize events that provide shadowing and clinical opporutnities for those interested. By working with those related to the field of anesthesia, the club will view updates in anesthesia and critical care medicine as well as work with the community to plan community service events that bring awareness to the field and what it stand for.

Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA)

​CMDA provides resources, networking opportunities, education and a public voice for Christian healthcare professionals and students. CMDA promotes positions and addresses policies on healthcare issues; conducts overseas medical evangelism projects; coordinates a network of Christian healthcare professionals for fellowship and professional growth; sponsors student ministries in medical and dental schools.

Dermatology Interest Group (DIG)

Dermatology Interest Group will encourage TouroCOM medical students to learn and enhance their knowledge in the field of dermatology. We aim to provide a forum to increase discussion and awareness of the multifaceted aspects of dermatology, including its subspecialties, clinical challenges, and new developments in treatments. DIG will be an opportunity for students to be involved in the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology.

Gender in Medicine Club

The Gender in Medicine Interest Group aims to provide education for all future medical professionals to better relate to patients from all backgrounds, and to provide a platform for the discussion of pertinent healthcare issues and disparities relating to gender or sexuality. We offer resources to students interested in a possible career related to women’s health, as well as to provide avenues for community involvement and mentorship connections. Our group’s activities will include monthly seminars/speaker series, shadowing/mentorship and community outreach activities. Finally, we seek to increase women’s and sexual health advocacy within the medical school and the community we live in.

MedAchieve

MedAchieve is a science enrichment program for high school students in the Hudson Valley. Students attend weekly sessions where, along with their Touro mentors, they participate in lectures, labs, and activities that cover different science fields. The goal of the program is to supplement student interest in the medical field by encouraging science majors in college and ultimately addressing the shortage of providers in rural communities.

Nutrition & Wellness Club

​Aligned with the principles of osteopathic medicine, the Nutrition & Wellness Club (NWC) aims to promote lifestyle choices that foster optimal health and good living. In recent years, it has become critical to incorporate nutrition education into the medical school curriculum, as a large body of research identifies nutrition as a key factor in health promotion and disease prevention. The aim of NWC is to assist and educate all those who find interest in the topic of Nutrition, while clarifying common dietary misconceptions. Most importantly, NWC is a platform for patient advocacy and community service, helping enhance the medical knowledge of future physicians to become exceptional healthcare providers.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Student Interest Group aims to inform and guide medical students at all stages of training about the rewards and opportunities available as an obstetrician/gynecologist. Through our organization, students will be connected to the educational, community service, and legislative activities of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Pediatrics Interest Group

​The Pediatrics Interest Group is an organization intended to help medical students learn more about the field of Pediatrics. Whether you want to pursue Pediatrics specifically, family medicine, or any other field of medicine, this group will help cultivate pediatrics clinical skills and experience.

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Club

The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Club strives to increase students’ awareness of the field and educate future physicians on the specialty’s role in providing optimal, quality healthcare to patients.

Psychiatry and Neurology Student Interest Group (PsychSIG)

Psychiatry and Neurology Student Interest Group (PsychSIG) is TouroCOM Middletown's premiere student organization dedicated to developing mental health awareness and discussing neurological medicine from the varying points of view of medical students, future patients, and physicans alike. With fundraising movie nights, wellness days, patient speakers, and community volunteer opportunities, PsychSIG aims to actively debate and work upon hot-button relevant issues ranging from such topics as medical student burnout to socioeconomic mental health disparities. With open hearts and level heads, PsychSIG strives to help our communities, our patients, and ourselves; and hopes to remain: always on your mind.

Public Health and Social Justice Club

The Public Health and Social Justice Club strives to explore the intersections of health, health care and medicine with issues of equality and social justice. Through local community involvement, we're interested in why health disparities exist among different populations and what can be done to improve these disparities. We host a pre-clinical program at Middletown Community Health Center, host speakers from various disciplines related to public health/health disparities, participate in Touro's annual health fair, and collaborate with several clubs at Touro COM. We're a very open and flexible club, and are interested in any ideas or projects related to local, national or global public health and social justice issues!

Sigma Sigma Phi, Psi-Alpha Chapter

Sigma Sigma Phi is an Honorary Osteopathic Service Fraternity. It's objectives and purposes are: To further the Science of Osteopathic Medicine and its standards of practice, to improve the scholastic standing and promote a higher degree of fellowship among its students,and to foster a working relationship with the members of Middletown to work together to better the community.

Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO)

The SAAO chapter at Touro COM is dedicated to teaching and promoting the art and philosophy of osteopathic medicine. Our goal is to maintain a strong community for students who share an interest in learning more about osteopathic manipulative medicine. Our members serve as TAs for OMM and as volunteers at various community events where we provide OMT to the public. Additionally, our chapter fundraises and sends members to the annual convocation, this year in Colorado Springs, where students and ostoepathic physicians convene from all around the world to participate in workshops and networking events.

Student American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (SAOAO)

SAOAO is a club formed to encourage and promote interest in Orthopedic surgery and help create/provide an environment that facilitates knowledge, education, and opportunities for experience and insight into the field of Orthopedic surgery for interested students at TouroCOM Middletown.

Student Association of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (SAACOFP)

SAACOFP membership offers a variety of benefits and provides oppotunities to build a professional network and enhance leadership skills. Membership is free, and benefits include OMT videos, COMLEX prep, webinars, preceptor directory, and residency program finders.

Student Clinical Oncology and Pathology and Organization (SCOPO)

SCOPO was established with the goal of fostering interest in the oncology and pathology medical specialties among TouroCOM Middletown students, and to provide mentorship opportunities, clinical exposure and career development for aspiring oncologists and pathologists. SCOPO aims to encourage the discussion of oncology and pathology among the student body, invite practicing oncologists and pathologists to speak, connect organization members with physician mentors, and to raise community awareness about cancer screening and prevention.

​SOMA is the student affiliate organization of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). At the Touro-Middletown chapter, we have six committees for you to join, each with their own activities: Community Outreach, Cultural and Health Disparities, Political Affairs, Research, Pre-SOMA, and Professional Development. Members who join in the fall will receive a free Thieme Anatomy Atlas and all members can apply for scholarships through the SOMA Foundation in the Fall and Spring. Benefits also include discounts on board prep resources. Some of our big events include D.O. Day on Capitol Hill, Physician Advocacy Day in Albany, Pancakes for Parkinsons, SOMA Slushie Shack, Wear Red Day, and we have many more events coming your way!

Student Osteopathic Surgical Association (SOSA)

​SOSA was established to provide osteopathic students interested in surgical specialties a means in which to network, explore, and learn the fundamentals principles of a medical education in surgery. SOSA helps promote surgical education through numerous annual events such as clinics in glowning and gloving, suturing, sterile technique, and operating room behavior, bone marrow donation awareness and recruitment, and osteopathic manipulation of the surgical patient. SOSA seeks to serve as a forum for discussion amongst students and surgeons.

Wilderness Medicine Club

The Wilderness Medicine Club seeks to explore the uses in medicinal science in remote settings and to learn the skills necessary to react appropriately in survival situations. Through this organization students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and trips to acquire skills and utilize them in a remote setting.
